Since 2005, as part of the Palomar Health Executive Management Team, Opal has had responsibility for the performance improvement/patient safety, infection control and resource utilization programs at Palomar Health, a comprehensive health system which includes two acute care facilities, two nursing homes, a home care agency as well as a number of clinic sites.

Previous to her employment with Palomar Health, Opal was with Sharp Healthcare, a multi-entity system in San Diego, CA as the Vice President for Performance Improvement. She provided leadership for the Performance Improvement/Patient Safety and Regulatory processes for the integrated hospital system.

Until Opal joined the Sharp HealthCare system, she was a health care consultant for ten years including: a Principal for the West Coast Division of the Accreditation and Assessment practice of Premier Inc.; the Director of Accreditation Services with the National Healthcare Advisory Services practice of BDO Seidman, LLP; and prior to BDO, Ms. Reinbold was a consultant with Qual Ed, Inc.

Prior to her full time consulting practice, Opal served as the System-wide Director of Quality Resource Management for Scripps Health in San Diego, California which included seven hospitals, two nursing homes and numerous clinics and affiliated businesses. Her responsibilities included creation and implementation of a corporate-wide standardized QRM System, as well as strategic responsibility for implementation of an improvement-based management/reporting structure.

Ms. Reinbold has also served as a Vice President with Holy Cross Health System. In her positions, she has worked with leadership groups, including Board, Administration and Medical Staff, as well as managers and staff at all levels.

Ms. Reinbold has extensive experience in the following areas:

  • Performance improvement/Patient Safety processes and tools
  • Proactive tools to address risk identification and follow-up to sentinel events and near misses
  • Medical staff performance improvement
  • Operationalizing improvement activities to enhance cost effectiveness
  • Strategic planning/Board/leadership training and support
  • Team coordination training and development
  • JCAHO preparation
  • Planning and managing successfully for organizational change and
  • Opal has also worked extensively with medical staff organizations, enabling them to work
    collaboratively and productively with their administrative counterparts.

Ms. Reinbold is a skilled speaker and writer with an extensive resume of publications and national speaking engagements in the areas of Performance Improvement, Organization Change, the changing JCAHO standards and approach to survey.

In 2007, Ms Reinbold was a co-presenter for JCAHO 21st Annual National Quality Conference on “Healthcare Execution: Imperatives for Improving Patient Safety” and contributed a case study for the JCAHO publication “Applied Tracer Methodology: Tips and Strategies for Continuous Systems Improvement.”

Along with her MBA, Ms. Reinbold received training through Dr. Edward Deming’s Courses, the Juran Institute, HCA, Joiner Associates, The Institute for Healthcare Improvement; is a master trainer for Team Coordination Training and is certified to teach William Bridges’ Managing Successfully Through Constant Change. In 2007, Ms. Reinbold completed the Healthcare Research and Education Trust National Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship.
