Children who eat together in a large group eat 30 percent more than when they eat with only a few kids, according to a 2007 study from the University of Michigan. This same behavior occurs in adults. Seeing many others eating stimulates a person to join in, ignoring internal signals that enough food has been consumed, the researchers said.
