Knee Replacement Surgery at Palomar Health

Palomar Health provides knee replacement surgery for patients with knee pain and problems in North San Diego County and South Riverside County.

When a knee is so severely damaged by disease or injury, an artificial knee replacement may be considered. Approximately 400,000 knee replacement surgeries are performed annually in the United States. The most common age for a knee replacement is between ages 60–80 years old.

First made available in the late 1950s, early total knee replacements did a poor job of mimicking the natural motion of the knee. For that reason, procedures resulted in high failure and complication rates.

However, advances in total knee replacement technology in the past 10–15 years have enhanced the design and fit of knee implants.
