1. There are no interview slots open, now what?
The Pathmaker Internship recruits interns every 3 months, with interviews held in March, June, September, and December. If there are no interview slots available, it means that all of the current interview days have been filled up with applicants, or another cycle has not yet been opened. 2. What is expected of me as an applicant?
As an applicant, you are expected to arrive on time to your scheduled interview and to conduct yourself in a professional manner. You will be asked a variety of questions during the interview, so come prepared to provide relevant evidence to support your answers.
3. What if I am not accepted?
If you are not accepted, do not be discouraged! There are a number of applicants who cannot be accepted each rotation due to a limited number of openings in the program. We appreciate those who demonstrate the motivation to strengthen their candidacy and encourage those who are not accepted to reapply.
4. Level I, Level II, Level III, what is the difference?
Our Level I high school interns work alongside our Level II college/adult interns as part of the patient care team. Both Level I and II interns are trained to provide direct patient care and assist other staff members in creating the ideal patient experience. Level III interns are trained in the same skill sets as Level II interns; however, after passing a Spanish-speaking proficiency exam, they are able to serve as Medical Interpreters.
5. When would I start?
Interviews are held quarterly in March, June, September, and December and applicants will begin their clinical shifts approximately three months after their acceptance into the program. These three months will encompass clearance processes and training sessions to ensure that you are prepared to serve shifts on the floor.
6. How long will it take to complete the internship?
In order to graduate, we ask for a minimum commitment of 122 hours (approx. 6 months) from our Level I interns and 270 hours (approx. 15 months) from our Level II/Level III interns. Interns must be able to serve a minimum of one 4-hour shift per week in order to complete this hours requirement.
7. Can I serve more than one shift a week?
There is no limit to the number of shifts you can serve in a week, as long as the shift you desire is available.
8. How long can I stay in the internship?
After you complete your required internship hours, you are welcome to stay in the program for as long as you would like to serve as an intern.
