About Your Room
Your room assignment at Palomar Health is based on your admitting diagnosis and the bed availability on the day of your admission. You may be transferred to a different room or unit if it is determined that a different level of care is required to optimize treatment opportunities. Private (single-bed) and semi-private (two-bed) rooms are available.
Calling Your Nurse
A button to call your nurse is located at your bedside. Pressing the button alerts the nurses’ station that you need assistance and a light flashes above your door. A staff member will respond to your signal as soon as possible.
Hospital beds are electrically operated and your nurse will show you how to work your bed properly. Your hospital bed is probably higher and narrower than your bed at home. Bedside rails are for your protection. These may be raised at night or during the day if you’re resting, recovering from surgery or taking certain medications.
Problems with bed operations should be reported promptly to your nurse.
For all outside calls, dial 9 +1 + area code + number. If you receive a busy signal, please hang up and dial “0” for assistance. If there are costs associated with your call, an operator will come on the line and request your method of payment. Patients may also receive calls from outside the facility. Your nurse can provide you with your room telephone number.
Cellular Phone Usage
Due to the potential risk to medical equipment, Palomar Health restricts the use of wireless communication devices. The use of cellular phones by patients and visitors is permitted only outside of the patient’s room and away from other patients and visitors.
A TV channel selection guide is available in your room at the bedside table. The TV remote is on the same device as the “nurse call” on most units within the health system. Please be considerate of other patients by using a soft volume and turning off your set at bedtime.
