Ryan Olsen, MBA, MPH - CEO of Palomar Health Medical Group (PHMG) & CAO for Palomar Health

Ryan Olsen, MBA, MPH, is CEO of Palomar Health Medical Group (PHMG), as well as the CAO for Palomar Health. Ryan has worked as a healthcare executive for more than 17 years, with extensive experience leading California-based healthcare systems. Ryan’s combination of both medical group and hospital experience has helped him further develop the vast integrated delivery system at Palomar Health.

Before joining Palomar Health, Ryan was the regional chief operating officer at Providence Health Orange County, where he had oversight of more than 2,000 employees and 800 physicians across 71 locations, driving key improvements in access, engagement and regional service line development. Ryan has also held hospital and medical group positions (twice) at Cedars-Sinai, Providence St. Jude Medical Center, and UC Irvine Medical Center. Ryan earned his MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management and his MPH from the Fielding School of Public Health, where he continues to serve as a lecturer and preceptor. He received his undergraduate degree from UCSD.

In his time at Palomar Health, the medical group has doubled in size and achieved the Integrated Healthcare Association's recognition for 'Most Improved' medical group. Ryan’s compassionate and collaborative leadership style has helped the system grow even stronger, while expanding the geography and incorporating the synergistic strengths of the system. The last few years have brought personal challenges to Ryan, losing his sister, mother, and father, as well as his wife, suffering a traumatic brain injury from a devastating car accident; all in the span of 18 months. This has made him a more present and empathic leader, more mindful of the patient experience, and the importance of supporting employees. Ryan has 3 children and is a weekend triathlete.
