Virginia Barragan, FACHE, DPT, MOMT - Vice President Continuum of Care

As a healthcare professional and executive, Virginia Barragan has more than 34 years of experience. She began her clinical career at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, Nevada in 1987 and then moved to the San Diego area in 1988. She joined Palomar Health in April of 2001.

In her role as Vice President Continuum Care, Virginia is responsible for all aspects of Palomar Health’s care continuum including a 129 bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation center with a 36 subacute beds, a home health agency with certified, private and home infusion businesses, an ambulatory woman’s diagnostic center, an oncology service line inclusive of radiation oncology as well as medical oncology and infusion, a rehabilitation service line, forensics and sexual assault services serving all of San Diego County, a child advocacy center, First 5 grant programs serving North County San Diego and a community nurse who partners with community action councils.

During her tenure at Palomar Health, Virginia has led the services under her to achieve a number of quality recognitions including Joint Commission for post-acute services, skilled nursing CMS 5 star ranking for 5 years as well as U.S. News Best Nursing Home and Best Short Term Rehabilitation;  initial and multiple recertification of Cardiac Rehabilitation with the American Academy of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR); and multiple recertification of inpatient rehabilitation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Virginia received her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Vermont, her Masters of Orthopedic Manual Therapy from the Ola Grimsby Institute and her Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Western University. She obtained a Certificate in Executive Healthcare Leadership from the University of California San Diego. She is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and she serves as a board member for the Center for Post-Acute Care in the California Hospital Association.

On a personal level, Virginia enjoys time with her husband and six children. She loves to travel. She strongly supports the needs of both families and their communities.
