Cinco de Mayo Comes to Villa Pomerado

The residents of Villa Pomerado Care Center were treated to a musical performance and Mexican food in celebration of Cinco de Mayo on Sunday.

The performance evolved from an offer from longtime Palomar Health Foundation donor Carlos Cornejo to bring his band Tres Amigos to play for the residents as a gift instead of his usual cash donation. Villa Pomerado’s Manager of Rehabilitation Services Jennifer Paull loved the idea and expanded on it, planning a Cinco de Mayo party with the Palomar Health Foundation, complete with tamales, taquitos, non-alcoholic margaritas and sombreros.

Cornejo said he wanted to perform for the residents because music brings happy memories, which coincidently meshes with Villa Pomerado’s Music and Memory Program.

Longtime resident Dr. Lewis Kruglick said the performance was a great unifier, bringing together more people than he’s ever seen in one spot since he’s lived there. Dr. Kruglick said he enjoyed singing along to the American and Mexican classics with his fellow residents.
