Palomar Health Opens New Orthopedic Offices

Poway orthopedic patients are getting a better experience now that Palomar Health has opened new offices on the fifth floor of the Pomerado Outpatient Pavilion on the campus of Palomar Medical Center Poway.

“This place is going to be amazing,” Dr. Brad Cohen said just before helping to cut the ribbon at a celebration on Thursday evening hosted by Arch Health Medical Group and Palomar Health. “We will see anyone, anytime.”

Dr. Cohen said he and his fellow orthopedic surgeons who he will be sharing the office with, Dr. James Bried and Dr. K.C. Owsley, have already seen almost 800 patients since the new offices opened two weeks ago.

Dr. Bried said he’d been at the old location, an aging stand-alone building about a block away, for more than 31 years. He said he’d have to walk his patients down the hall to look at MRI’s because the rooms didn’t have integrated computers.

“As physicians we have kept up with all the new technology but our office didn’t reflect that,” Dr. Bried said.

The new space has all the modern amenities with computers and high-definition monitors in every exam room, access to the patient’s digital x-rays which are taken in the same building, windows providing natural light, more and larger exam rooms and an overall nicer look and feel.

Dr. Bried believes the new location will provide a better patient experience because of the new equipment and greater staff enthusiasm who are feeding off the energy the new office generates.

Palomar Health worked with Arch Health Medical Group administration to move some existing offices to free up space on the fifth floor of the Pomerado Outpatient Pavilion and remodel it for orthopedics. The location is strategically located next door to Rehabilitation Services.

“Being under one roof is engaging and comforting; it will help us feel good about what we are doing and where we are going,” Dr. Bried said, adding it will lead to more collegiality between staff.

Dr. Cohen agrees that being next door to Rehabilitation Services will lead to more collaboration between the physicians and the therapists to the benefit of patients.

“This is how you want to see patients,” Dr. Cohen said.

The Palomar Health Orthopedic and Spine Center of Excellence is nationally recognized by Healthgrades as one of America’s 100 Best for Joint Replacement and Orthopedic Surgery and is rated a five-star recipient for back surgery, hip fracture treatment, total hip replacement, total knee replacement, joint replacement and orthopedic surgery. The Center is also rated a High Performing Hospital by the U.S. News and World Report for Hip and Knee Replacement and is a Women’s Choice Award for Orthopedics.
