Patient and Family Advisory Council--Member

Duties: Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) Member
  • Serve on the Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) and attend monthly meetings.  The PFAC discusses and suggests changes in hospital programs, policies, and procedures to improve the patient experience.  Members include patients, family members, and hospital staff.
  • Participate in discussion groups. Advisors share their experience on what it is like to be a patient, and/or family member. They suggest where improvements can be made to enhance hospital quality and safety standards, keeping patient safety and welfare in mind.
  • Review and/or create materials such as health information handouts, discharge instructions, and marketing materials to make these materials easier for the public, patients, and family members to understand and use.
  • Work on various short-term projects, subject to the PFAC member’s availability.
  • PFAC members may be given the choice to participate on other hospital boards and committees.
Requirements
  • Attend and participate in monthly PFAC meetings.
  • Interact with committee members, hospital management, and staff in a respectful and responsible manner.
  • Use problem-solving skills to suggest improvements in hospital policies and procedures that improve patient care, quality, and safety.
  • Maintain patient and hospital confidentiality at all times.
