A Wedding at Palomar Medical Center Escondido

On a Sunday afternoon, Food and Nutrition Services Manager Javier Guerrero made a dramatic change in plans. Originally heading to the gym, he found out a couple decided to marry at Palomar Medical Center Escondido—and he sprang into action to prepare for this celebratory event.

Guerrero organized floral arrangements (challenging to find last minute on a weekend), fancy beverages, flutes and a spread of food, including the requisite wedding cake. “It was an effort that involved several co-workers,” says Guerrero. “I had to make several calls to our vendors and supervisors on duty so we can pull it through.”

The groom, Felipe, has been a patient at the hospital, and felt determined to marry his bride Alma that day—no matter what the venue. Why? Alma said that Felipe could not wait any longer.

Family and friends, even relatives from Mexico, attended the event held right outside Palomar Medical Center Escondido, and the couple provided their own officiant.

Alma and Felipe, together for 10 years, both say they feel grateful for everything the hospital did to put the meaningful occasion together.

As for Guerrero, his “patients first” motto motivated him to transform into a wedding organizer for a day. "That is why I work in the health care industry," he says.
