At the Jean McLaughlin Women’s Center, our nurses and staff provide exceptional guidance and support, while our advanced technologies allow for the most accurate screenings and diagnoses. We offer full-field digital mammography (FFDM) and diagnostic ultrasound.
We also offer computer-aided detection for all screening studies using iCAD technologies.
We offer the latest tools in breast imaging, including:
- Digital Mammography: Digital mammography is similar to a traditional mammogram, but instead of using film to capture breast images, advanced technology utilizes a computer to receive breast images as digital pictures. Adjustments may be made to magnify an area of concern or adjust the contrast and brightness of the image. The clarity and contrast of digital mammography enables the radiologist to see selected areas more clearly.
- Diagnostic Procedures: Breast ultrasound and stereotactic/ultrasound guided breast biopsies are performed using the most advanced diagnostic technologies. Ultrasound may be used diagnostically to determine if a breast lump is a fluid-filled cyst or a solid mass. Ultrasound may also be used to evaluate breast health in young women who may have very dense breast tissue.
- Breast MRI (magnetic resonance imaging): This technology may be used to help detect breast cancer in women with very dense breast tissue and in women who are known to be at risk for breast cancer. These patients may want to discuss the use of breast MRI with their physician.
To provide the earliest breast cancer detection possible, the Center plans to purchase and implement Hologic Selenia 3 Mammography in fiscal year 2018. Learn more (pdf).
