Preparing the Pharmacy Leaders of the Future

The Pharmacy Department provides comprehensive services on all three campuses, Palomar Medical Center (PMC), Pomerado Hospital (POM), and Palomar Downtown. The facilities have implemented a completely automated distribution model, consisting of automated inventory management, robotic IV admixture and automated dispensing cabinets.

Clinical services include pharmacokinetics, anti-coagulation management, total parenteral nutrition, renal dosing, antibiotic utilization evaluation and investigational drugs. Additionally, a team of pharmacists on the units provide discharge counseling and medication reconciliation for high-risk patients and post-operative orthopedic patients. There is also a team of ambulatory care pharmacists that manage patients in the community.

Palomar Medical Center also has an outpatient pharmacy that provides specialty drugs and a meds-to-beds program. PMC and POM are teaching sites for the University of California, San Diego, University of the Pacific, KGI School of Pharmacy, and Loma Linda and primary site for the pharmacy residency program PGY1 and PGY2 Programs in Health-System Administration and Care Transitions. Arch Health Partners and Neighborhood Healthcare are the primary sites for the PGY2 residency in Ambulatory Care. Serving on a host of committees and several rounding teams, pharmacists are vital members of the health-care team within Palomar Health.
