Mikhail Malek, M.D.

Medical Director of Cardiovascular Services

Dr. Malek is a board-certified interventional cardiologist with Arch Health Partners in Escondido. He earned his medical degree from Cairo University School of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt, and completed internships and residencies at both Northwest Hospital in Chicago and Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois. He is a member of the California Medical Association and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.  

Navinder Sawhney, M.D.

Medical Director of Electrophysiology


Dr. Sawhney is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. He earned his medical degree at the Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis; completed his residency at Washington University Barnes Jewish Hospital; and fulfilled his fellowship training in cardiovascular disease and cardiac electrophysiology at UCSD.

Dr. Sawhney specializes in arrhythmia management, including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardias, ventricular tachycardia, pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronization therapy devices. He is active in clinic research and has written numerous articles and textbook chapters on arrhythmia management. 

Dr. Sawhney joined Arch Health in February 2013, and he  serves as the medical director of the new Electrophysiology Lab at Palomar Medical Center.

Virginia Barragan, PT, DPT, MOMT

Director of Rehabilitation Services

In her role as Director, Virginia Barragan oversees all aspects of Rehabilitation Services, including Cardiac Rehab and leads her extensive staff of caregivers and highly skilled therapists and nurses by example. She has been a licensed Physical Therapist since 1987, and recently received a doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from Western University in Pomona, California. She also holds a Master's degree in Orthopedic Manual Therapy, and is a certified Athletic Trainer.

Additionally, she has completed coursework in TMJ, wound care and orthopedics. In addition to her clinical skills, Virginia received her certification in Health Care Executive Leadership from UCSD, and has advanced experience in Medicare and Managed Care reimbursement and compliance. Virginia has been with Palomar Health since 2001.
