Surgical waiting room

Duties: Surgery Waiting
  1. Greet patients, families and other visitors presenting to the Registration window on 2nd floor.
  2. Asks for general contact information to be shared with the nurse liaison and staff.
  3. Calls the appropriate department and announces the patient’s check-in.
  4. Explains in general terms what is expected and offers a Tracking Board card.
  5. Escorts the patient and family members to Pre-op, IR, Cath lab, or PACU when directed to do so.
  6. Uses the schedule to record phone numbers, contact information, and the room number the patient is assigned to.
  7. Communicates information with the RN liaison and utilizes her for specific questions regarding visitation of patients pre and post op, room assignments, plus more.
  8. Answers phone calls saying “Surgery Waiting, this is NAME”.
  9. Presents a caring and professional attitude to everyone including vendors, physicians, drivers, and anyone who comes to our Surgery Waiting window for assistance.
  1. Possess the maturity and interpersonal skills to cordially interact with patients, staff, volunteers and other customers of Palomar Medical Center.
  2. Excellent communication skills for customer service and phone answering.
  3. Be able to sit for moderate periods as well as walk the hallways and lobby areas without difficulty.
  4. Volunteers must be flexible and possess problem-solving skills as well as be able to handle stressful situations.
  5. Volunteers must maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
